Playtest Workshop at Labyrinth, August 7, 2012

On Tuesday night, August 7, we did a playtest session at the Labyrinth game store on Capitol Hill. Awesome game store owner Kathleen had tweeted a lot about our impending arrival, so a bunch of fans of our games showed up to try out a few of the newest things I'm testing. We also drew in gamers from the DC chapter…

Otakon: July 28-29, 2012

Kristin and I just got back from Otakon, an enormous Anime convention held every summer at the Baltimore Convention Center, and we had an excellent time.

This was the 3rd event we've done now with our friends at Foam Brain Games (the previous…

Oz-Stravaganza: June 1-3, 2012

Kristin and I took a road trip to Chittenango, NY (just outside Syracuse) for an event called Oz-Stravaganza, and we had a wonderful time.

This was a very different event from the game and media conventions we're used to attending. Those are held at convention centers in big cities, whereas Oz-Stravaganza…

MidSouthCon, March 23-25, 2012

Kristin and I were the Gaming Guests of Honor at MidSouthCon, a sci-fi convention held in Memphis, Tennessee, and we had a splendid time.

We were featured in a bunch of panel discussions, parties, and meet-and-greets. I was featured on 2 panels, one about the perfect villain, and the other about the…

Hi. I've conversed with Kristin on numerous occasions.... I'm Canadian and kinda set out (by pestering Drew first) to see how many Canadians you have on you're fan page. First off I feel like a stalker (no worry just a math and stats nut). Did you know the majority of your fans don't appear to be American but rather a mishmash of the UK, Canada, Netherlands, France, Italy, 2 from Germany and several other countries?!? Let me know if you ever want a statistical analysis- could help to show where your strengths are and where more attention is needed. I started this just because of curiosity. Drew mentioned forums.... I decided to invite my fellow Canadians to join... After 65 pages of people a trend showed easily. I've a lot of extra time and love numbers and population analysis. Better I'm on disability and would do the work for fun (or treats if offered- got my eye on those pyramids ;) ). Anyway, contact me if you're curious.

Hah! Of course not! Besides, I leave for Pennsic in a week and I know I can hook people there.

...I really did that, didn't I. /facepalm

Well, Caldera is certainly a nice Volcano tweak. I only started playing it recently, but I'm in love with the throw-a-piece-back turn option.

I was wondering, what is the "Playtest Workshop" mentioned on the Origins Schedule?  Somewhat more importantly, will that be in the lab?

I'm interested in participating, but if it's somewhere else I may be hard pressed to come away fFrom the lab.  I do enjoy being in the lab; it's always such a cool place.  =)

But, maybe the playtest workshop is super secret stuff and needs to be somewhere private.  I dunno!

Tippy/Tilt are home rule versions of the game Cracked Ice that are a little more forgiving. I generally teach it to younger children ages 5 and up. Tippy is the solo version. Tilt is for 2 to 4 players. Cracked Ice is fun but a little frustrating at times, so I play tilt instead.

Ah sorry :) I thought I read somewhere else to list all Looney products that have caught my fancy.

I may have the names wrong - but no, not my inventions, we found them somewhere.  Blammo is played on a 8x8 grid, and when you place a pyramid it "blams" and moves all adjacent pyramids away.  Perhaps it was just called Blam, come to think of it.  Mammoth we found to be roundly disappointing but we tried it - it's unbalanced.  One player is five large pyramids, the other plays 5 of each of the other two sizes.  The setting is mammoth hunting season, and the pawns and drones are "hunters", the queens are "mammoths".  We played it all of twice, I think, because it was just far too easy to win as the hunters.

Frankly I wanted to list zendo about five times - it is by far my favorite!
